How Much Do You Remember?
Students or Should I Say TEACHERS,
You are a high school teacher for a day. Study the triangle, knowing that your students will only remember a % of what you cover; What would you and your students do during the 90 minute block?
At the being of are class we would use reading to learn about our chapter. To get to know exactly what we are doing. Then we would have a discussion group for them to talk about what they think this chapter is all about. So they can have a understanding about it. Then we would pratice by doing by doing labs so they could actually see how some of this stuff works. and by doing all of that you are using teach others or immediate use of learning. Because at somepoint someone is going to ask you to help them. And that is what mme and my students would do for a 90 minute block.
(Huda) Using a five minute introduction of our lesson of the day to break the ice, I would break my students into groups of 3-4 people. After demonstrating something....(a scientific law, perhaps?) I would turn over the materials to my students and let them practice different aspects of the same lesson by doing it themselves and discussing it within themselves. During the last 45 minutes of class, I would let the groups come up and have a few minutes each to teach the class about their specific assignment while the rest of the class takes note.
At the beginning of class I would tell the class what they were learning that week. Then I would have them gt in pairs and read the chapter. After they read the chapter, I would give them a question sheet to answer. The last 45 minutes I would have them take notes and then I would put them in groups of about 4 and have them do a lab the last 30 minutes. If they had a question they could either ask a classmate who understands it or they could have me explain it.
The first 5-10 mins I'll tell the class what they are doing. Then I'll give them a question sheet to work on for abt 30 mins. Then I'll have them to work on an lab for abt 20-30 mins and then I would have them work on the voc for that chapter for the rest of the class.(Melissa C)
Start off class with a short lecture so the class will understand the lesson. Then as a techer I would demonstrate so the students could get a visual understanding. Next it would be their turn to try it on their own in groups of no more than four people. Within their groups the students would learn by practicing. The last 15 minutes of class the groups would communicate with other groups to teach and explain their lab.
At the beginning of class i would get my class invoved in a review game to help refresh their memory from the previous day. Then i would introduce the new lesson through a demonstration relating to everday life. Next i would give the students about 30 min to read aloud the new lesson with stops in between to discuss the lesson and any questions a student may have. For the last few minutes of class i would have several student to volunteer to teach the class the lesson of the day from their prespective.
If I was a teacher teaching a ninety minute block on physical science, I would begin by reviewing what my students had learned from the day before. I would follow up with todays lecture and have a question and answer session. Following the Q&A session, the class would be broken up into groups and would work on labs. After the experiements I would have the students log all their findings into their science notebook. Once again I would have a Q & A session, just to make sure all students were on the same page.
At the begining of class I would have my kids read the whole chapter, and when they get finished reading we would take notes on the chapter. After we take notes I will give them a lab to do to help them understand what they read on took notes on. In the last 15 minutes of class I will tell my kids to get a parttner, and they will have to talk to each other about what they learned in the chapter so that it will help them learn it better.
I would tell the students to right down notes then once they have finished they will start a discussion among the assigned groups that they are part of. Then the students will do a short or a medium length lab depending on a day.
(Dani Borralles)well first of all i should make everyone think and relaxed a little bit and and start asking them questions about the chapter we going read before we get into it..then make alittle discussion and work in groups so everyone can get to learn what we talking abouut..
First we would go over the chapter and then they would have a class dicussion about it. Then after that just to see how much they were listening I would give them a quiz on it. Then after that we would go over the answers just to make sure they understand the material. Then the last thing they will do is a lab and that will be what they will do for the 90 minute block. (Chanavia Malloy)
well... first... i would start off with a little starter for the first 5 minutes... then start reviewing and asking ?s about what we have done the previous day or days... then... teach the lesson for the day... then... give classwork and stuff so if anybody has any ?s, they can be answered... then... start on homework so we can go ahead and answer some ?s on it... then... thats it... and after tests... go over some ?s that were missed often on the test... then go over and over and over stuff so it'll be very sinked in our brains... the end :) <3
(Edlyn) well first i would start with a starter for the first 10 minutes. Then we would do worksheets with the class for the 20 minutes. rad the sectionn for have the class time and then do a group work til the end od class of Chemistry.
Stephanie I, at the beginning of class, we would start by reading some of the text. then i would lecture on it and give demonstations. we would take notes. then the students would get into groups and discuss the lesson. they can help each other understand during this time. also, we would practice by doing with labs and doing problems together as a class.
I believe no one person learns the same. I have always learned best by doing. The question itself has taught me something, however. I have never asked my son CJ Braden, how he learns best. This is certainly something every person should know about their child. I have observed in the past he learned quickest by doing. Reading and observing has never kept his attention long enough. I look forward to discussing this with him.
I would begin by having the students read the lesson, stopping periodically throughout to have them discuss what they read with a partner or within their small group, writing down key points. I would check for understanding during the process by asking questions of the class. After the reading, we would do a quick partner activity where students would quiz each other on the reading. Then I would demonstrate the activity to the class, perhaps using a student helper. During the remainder of the class, students would practice the activity, as I monitored their progress.
Cj, If i was a teacher their would be a lot of labs. Doing demonstrations through each lab twice, both differently. Then i will have whole class participation in these activities while asking questions to see progress. After that there will be a quick discussion on what they have done and learned then i would go over any main points that could have been skipped.
at the beginning we would mostly have to read to get the chapter and study on our own, now since we are moving closer to the end we use different methods. We take more notes, and we do more labs, which help me out a lot. I learn the chapters better if we do activities rather then just reading out of the book. i would like to back up and go over everything one more time to make sure i got everything i need to know.
